K-On

K-ON!, the yonkoma (four panel comic) illustrating the lives of the four Japanese high school girls and the light music club they belong to has certainly become a phenomenon.  From a four-panel comic, it has since expanded to 2 seasons of anime series, a video game and a number of popular music albums. The newest addition, the K-ON! film debuted in 137 theatres in Japan and has in total generated over 1.9 billion yen (about RM60 million) in gross ticket sales. For non-Japan fans, the Blue-ray and DVD has been announced to be released soon, so fans worldwide will be able to continue to enjoy the adventures of their favourite heroines!

The Avengers Poster

Labeled “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes”, the Avengers originally consisted of Iron Man (Tony Stark), Ant-Man (Dr. Hank Pym), Wasp (Janet Van Dyne), Thor, and the Hulk (at a time when the Hulk was more intelligent). The original Captain America was discovered by the team in issue #4, trapped in ice, and he joined the group when they revived him.

The entire comic-book fan base is at its most hyped up than it has ever been—after all, this is the time where a major comic studio gets to produce its very own series of superhero movies that, although subtle, for the first time ever  are linked deeply with each other.

This is the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series, and it seems it’s going to be a great ride! So far, the 4 released movies  (Iron Man 1 & 2, Incredible Hulk, and Thor) have grossed near USD 2 billion in total, and it’s only going to increase with the release of Captain America and The Avengers in the near future.

The Avengers (2012) – Release Date: 27 April 2012

The Marvel Cinematic Universe links together 4 movies and their characters—Iron Man (1&2), The Incredible Hulk, Thor and Captain America—with small references between them, especially through the regular appearances of Nick Fury and Agent Coulson of SHIELD (especially during the movies’ post credits scenes, which Marvel is famous for now. The die-hard fans wait out the long credits only for a few seconds of teaser footage!).

The entire series will reach a climax in mid-2012, where all the main heroes will be assembled by SHIELD and appear together on-screen in the movie The Avengers to save the world against a major threat. Don’t miss it! More Details

Rurouni Kenshin movie is certainly a project that is long due. Although it has been almost 13 years since the last chapter of Rurouni Kenshin was published, the influence of the massive hit manga can still be felt—with over 50 million copies sold, fans of the series can still be found all over the world. It has been over a decade the series ended, but when Rurouni Kenshin live action movie was announced, its loyal fans still greeted the news as enthusiastically as ever.

Starring famous Japanese actor Sato Takeru as the titular Rurouni Kenshin, the movie promises to be an exciting, action-packed show for all viewers. Let us hope that the movie adaptation will do justice to the classic manga. Rurouni Kenshin live action film is slated to be released on August 25, 2012.

Bleach Anime Ending

Bleach is widely known as one of the Big Three of Weekly Shonen Jump (alongside Naruto and One Piece), which made it a surprise when a Japanese TV listing reported that the Bleach anime series will end its run on 27 March 2012.

Although it has been known that another anime is planned to replace Bleach’s timeslot, not many expected the show to end at this time, especially considering that the Bleach manga is still ongoing at the time of announcement (but is reportedly at the final story arc).

With D-Mension Z’s warpdrive broken, Wendy is stranded in the strange land.  Sending an SOS signal to the dimensional rescue party, they have no choice but to stay and wait in the kingdom of Teru Teru Bozu.

During her stay, Wendy noticed that the colours in Teru Teru Bozu Kingdom are more vivid than the other worlds they have visited compared them to the colours of the photographs taken in other worlds. They soon found out that a planet called Earth was responsible for the dulling of colour in their world.

That was when Tracy, a human resident of Teru Teru Bozu kingdom proposed a Save the Earth Squad, a team that will travel to Earth when D-Mension Z is fixed and revive its original bright colours. Everyone agreed, and when D-Mension Z was finally fixed they headed off towards their quest of saving Earth! Will they succeed?

There have been over 37 documented cases of conflict between nations over water supply. One of the world’s most precious resources, water is however very often overlooked in its importance by most developed nations.

To combat this, the World Water Day was formally proposed in the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development and observed a year after. It was designed to promote proper planning, management and protection of the world’s water sources, as well as raise awareness of the issues surrounding water supply in the public.

Water is more important a resource than ever—according to the UN World Water Development Report, by 2030 47% of the world’s population will be living in an area with critical water supply. It is hoped that the World Water Day and related efforts will succeed in avoiding any problems regarding water supply in the near future.

With Halloween around the corner, I wonder if any of you have any plans at trick and treating? It’s not a very popular practice in this part of the world, but we think that it it would definitely be fun for friends to gather together and celebrate Halloween with a trick or treat party!!!
